TRANSFORMING ROADS WITH A CLIMATE LENS

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Imagine if you could transform your road networks and public spaces with a view to a more sustainable future – without stretching beyond your budget. At SuperSealing, sustainability isn’t just a goal on the side; an aspiration for some time in the future; something we’ll get to if we have the time. It’s what makes us excited to come to work.

Utilising innovation, we economically manage roads, reduce emissions, lower temperatures and reduce the negative environmental impact on your local communities.

Our goal is to improve communities with products and services that lower emissions and temperatures, without costing you the Earth. Our programs deliver best-practice solutions that aim to balance cost, performance, environment and community impact.

Intelligent strategy, innovative practices and trusted relationships: that’s how we create better, more durable and more sustainable road networks.

How We Make it Happen

Sustainable Materials

We’re committed to using only safe, sustainable materials. From crack sealing to road surfacing, our products are made without harmful materials. They’re also built to withstand harsh weather conditions – fewer repairs means major reduction in waste and costly works down the road.

Creating a Climate-Smart Economy

The impact on climate is central in all our surfacing considerations, including:

  • Integrating climate-friendly treatments.
  • Using treatments that mitigate risks caused by climate change to help communities.
  • Labelling, researching the benefits and putting a cost on environmental impacts to aid our decision making.

Integrated Management System

SuperSealing has a high level of commitment to providing clients with a safe and cost effective service.

To help us achieve this SuperSealing has a fully Integrated Management System that complies with QMS ISO 9001:2016, OHS ISO45001:2018 and EMS ISO 14001:2016 which is 3rd party audited on an annual basis.

Building Resilient Communities

Instead of purely considering how many tonnes of product to use, we put the community at the heart of our decision making. Before our projects kick off, we ask the vital question: what are the costs and benefits to the local community? This is what guides our process from the very beginning.

Assessing the Environmental Impact

We’re able to conduct a Sustainability Assessment for each road to quantify the environmental impact.

Using our Super Surfacing Sustainability Assessment (SSSA) calculator, we label, compare, cost and rank each treatment option for:

  • Carbon emissions created during manufacturing and application.
  • Carbon emissions life-cycle effect.
  • The Heat Island Effect, determining the change in surface Albedo from each treatment and quantifying the effects.
  • Recycled content.
  • Recyclability of products at end of life.

Safety

Safety is assessed for each job and the impact it will have, covering key areas:

  • Community safety during work.
  • Worker safety.
  • Plant / pedestrian safety.
  • Limiting access to sites.

How do we lower emissions?

When it comes to surfacing, preservation is far better for the environment than traditional options.

Reduced carbon emissions. Fewer virgin materials.

The results from one council GuardTop program last year showed that the reduction in emissions was over 100T per year, compared to traditional asphalt resurfacing.

Last year, SuperSealing achieved the net effect of saving 22 million kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (CO2e) just through crack sealing.

To put that into perspective…

  • That’s saving an entire council’s emissions for a year.
  • It’s the equivalent to taking 5,500 cars off the road for a year, and planting 400,000 trees that live for 20 years.
  • It comes with a stunning carbon value of $11 million.

In a nutshell: for SuperSealing, sustainability isn’t a far-flung future aspiration. It’s happening right now – and we’re constantly innovating to make those numbers even better.
